Join us for two events for young pianists celebrating the music of Muzio Clementi, The Father Of The Pianoforte.
We have been running an annual Piano Competition at Clementi House in Kensington for the past three years in a historic building where Clementi lived and entertained many musicians of the day including Mendelssohn and Chopin. We return to Clementi House on Saturday 23 March 2019 for a competition for beginner pianists Grades 0 to 3. There is an entirely free choice of repertoire of music by Clementi. Entries are now open.
Due to the limited space available at Clementi House, we are delighted to announce that we have expanded the event to cover a second day hosted by Katrina and Richard Burnett from the Finchcocks Charity at their newly-built concert space in Tunbridge Wells. This new competition will take place on two original Clementi pianos from their wonderful collection of historical instruments – an 1822 grand pianoforte and 1825 square piano. There are cash prizes available for the Muzio Clementi Junior Piano Award winners. There will be a set syllabus of pieces to choose from. Entries open in September 2018.
Fun Fact: Muzio Clementi’s full name is Mutius Philippus Vincentius Franciscus Xaverius Clementi.
